About this position
YES USA is seeking enthusiastic ESL teachers to join our summer program for international teenagers in New York City, Miami, or Los Angeles. Teachers deliver engaging English lessons while also leading cultural activities and excursions, creating a dynamic and immersive learning experience for students.
This role combines classroom teaching with student supervision and activity leadership. We have housing available in shared university dorms.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons following the YES USA curriculum
- Adapt lessons as needed to meet student needs
- Monitor attendance, assess student progress, and complete evaluation reports
- Maintain a positive and organized classroom environment
- Ensure punctuality for classes and scheduled program activities
Student Supervision & Welfare
- Act in loco parentis to ensure student safety, welfare, and discipline
- Enforce the YES USA Student Code of Conduct
- Report concerns or incidents promptly to the management team
- Assist with emergencies when necessary
Activities & Excursions
- Lead and supervise cultural excursions and on-campus activities
- Share information about local culture, history, and attractions in an engaging way
- Ensure student safety and participation during activities
- Follow itineraries while adapting to changing situations as needed
Program Support
- Assist with student arrivals, orientations, and departures
- Support session opening and closing tasks such as campus tours and room checks
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions
- Bachelors degree or higher (TESOL, Linguistics, English, or related field preferred)
- ESL teaching certification (CELTA or equivalent)
- Experience teaching ESL to teenagers
- Native or near-native English proficiency
- Strong communication and classroom management skills
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Builds strong rapport with teenagers
- Energetic, outgoing, and culturally curious
- Responsible and confident managing groups of students
- Comfortable leading groups around the city and during excursions
- Flexible, organized, and calm under pressure
This is an intensive residential-style program. Staff should expect a full schedule that includes teaching, excursions, and activities. Teacher/Activity Counselors are guaranteed one day off per week.
