Job Description
The Director of Studies reports to the Center Director and is responsible for planning the ESL program for international teenagers and young adults, ensuring successful implementation by supervising and supporting a team of ESL teachers. The role includes duties related to the academic program and broader residential operations.
Director of Studies – Key Responsibilities
Program Preparation
- Train and onboard the academic team before the program and support late-arriving staff.
Academic Coordination
- Create teaching schedules and manage class lists and classroom assignments.
- Provide teachers with materials and support lesson planning and classroom technology.
- Monitor attendance, manage teacher absences, observe classes, and teach when necessary.
- Evaluate teacher performance and maintain a positive team environment.
Student & Program Support
- Ensure student welfare, discipline, and academic progress.
- Communicate with students and chaperones regarding academic matters.
- Oversee program quality, manage evaluations and certificates, and support orientations and ceremonies.
Residential & Additional Duties
- Support the wider residential program and assist with non-academic duties when needed (e.g., meals, excursions, student illness, room checks, and general student supervision).
- Help manage student arrivals and departures, including check-ins, orientations, and end-of-program ceremonies.
- Assist the Center Director with staffing needs, including arranging substitute teachers or training new staff.
- Step in for the Center Director or Activity Manager when necessary and contribute to general program operations to ensure a positive experience for students and staff.
Requirements
- DELTA certificate or MA in TESOL.
- 3-5 years minimum full-time experience teaching ESL.
- Native fluency in English.
- Previous academic management experience (preferably in summer camp).
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Hours
The Director of Studies will work 60 hours per week and will have one day off per week.
Compensation
- New York - $1,144 - $1,192 per week.
- Miami - $988 - $1,036 per week.
- California - $1,096 - $1,144 per week.
