About this position

MAXIMO NIVEL is seeking an Academic Director for Online Programs based in San Jose, Costa Rica. The Academic Director is a member of the Online Executive Team and works closely with the Country Manager. The Director does not carry a personal schedule of classes but substitutes and leads classes when regular staffing does not meet the institute's needs. The Director manages all daily operations of the Virtual Office and is responsible for a team of 2 to 3 shared staff members, 10 to 15 English teachers, and 5 to 10 Spanish teachers.

Responsibilities
  • Generate reports using Excel and Word, including Teacher Feedback Summary, teacher sick days, teacher payroll, and other ad-hoc reports as needed.
  • Manage teacher recruiting, teacher management, curriculum management, support materials, and quiz and exam administration.
  • Lead new teacher orientation and onboarding of academic staff.
  • Provide teacher management including coaching, scheduling, payroll, and time off administration.
  • Hold teacher meetings on the 15th and 30th of each month.
  • Organize 2 hours of in-service training for English teachers every month.
  • Manage client service related to exam re-takes, grade reports, certification requirements, and attendance records.
  • Maintain close virtual contact with learners, clients, and their families; provide excellent public-facing service in a virtual setting.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • TEFL, TESOL, or CELTA certification required.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience, ideally as a Head Teacher, Director of Studies, or Institute Director.
  • Fluent English; Advanced Spanish required.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and writing skills; strong team skills and a passion for team training.
  • Results-focused: learner success, learner satisfaction, and building an excellent teaching team.
  • Adept at setting goals, managing competing priorities, and using metrics to support business decisions.
