About this position
MAXIMO NIVEL is seeking an Academic Director for Online Programs based in San Jose, Costa Rica. The Academic Director is a member of the Online Executive Team and works closely with the Country Manager. While the Academic Director does not carry their own regular schedule, they substitute and lead classes when regular staffing does not meet the institute's needs. The Director generates reports using Word and Excel, including Teacher Feedback Summary, teacher sick days, teacher payroll, and other ad-hoc reports.
The Academic Director manages daily operations of the Virtual Office and oversees a team of 2 to 3 shared staff members, 10 to 15 English teachers, and 5 to 10 Spanish teachers.
Responsibilities- Teacher recruiting and teacher management (coaching, scheduling, payroll, time off).
- Curriculum management, support materials, and quiz and exam administration.
- Substitute teaching and leading classes as needed.
- Lead all new teacher orientation and onboarding of academic staff.
- Hold teacher meetings on the 15th and 30th of each month.
- Organize 2-hour in-service training sessions for English teachers every month.
- Manage client service regarding exam retakes, grade reports, certification requirements, and attendance records.
- Maintain close virtual contact with learners, clients, and families; excellent public-facing virtual communication skills are required.
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
- TEFL, TESOL, or CELTA certification required.
- At least 3 years' professional experience, ideally as a Head Teacher, DoS, or Institute Director.
- Fluent English; Advanced Spanish required.
- Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent interpersonal and writing skills; strong team skills and a passion for team training.
- Results-focused on learner success and satisfaction; adept at setting goals and managing competing priorities.
- Metric-driven; able to understand, analyze, and present data to support business decisions.
- Salary range: US$1,400 to US$2,000 + bonus.
