Senior Writer and Editor Mentor
About this position
We are looking for a highly skilled writer, editor, and mentor for social impact projects to join our distinguished education and advisory team in Bangkok.
This role is suited for someone with a diverse skill set and the ability to work across literature, science, economics, public policy, technology, culture, and current affairs. The goal is to help talented young individuals develop original ideas and express them with depth and clarity.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide students in identifying and addressing significant social, scientific, and cultural issues.
- Assist in transforming initial interests into unique, research-based projects with intellectual and social value.
- Develop concepts for organizations, campaigns, inventions, publications, and community initiatives.
- Quickly research unfamiliar subjects and identify credible sources and potential collaborators.
- Encourage students to think critically, test their assumptions, and improve their project rigor.
- Conduct interviews that reveal personal insights and motivations.
- Write and edit in-depth first-person narratives while maintaining the individual's voice.
- Simplify complex ideas into clear and compelling writing.
- Provide detailed editing, structural revision, and line editing.
- Stay informed about global affairs, technological advancements, scientific developments, and major social issues.
- Collaborate with a senior editorial and strategy team to refine work to a high standard.
Candidate Profile
- Experience as a writer, journalist, editor, researcher, consultant, academic, educator, lawyer, policy professional, filmmaker, or social entrepreneur is valued.
- Exceptional written English skills, similar to those found in leading international publications.
- Ability to write with emotional intelligence and originality.
- Experience developing reflective first-person narratives, biographies, profiles, or long-form journalism.
- Broad general knowledge and genuine intellectual curiosity.
- Strong awareness of current events and the ability to connect developments across fields.
- Ability to understand and explain complex academic research.
- Sound judgment on original, feasible, and socially valuable ideas.
- Experience mentoring young individuals, conducting interviews, or developing creative work collaboratively.
- Confidence to challenge students while being supportive and constructive.
- Meticulous attention to structure, language, accuracy, and voice.
- Ability to manage multiple demanding projects and respond to feedback.
Preferred backgrounds include investigative journalism, literary nonfiction, academic research, public policy, management consulting, social entrepreneurship, science and technology communication, documentary filmmaking, publishing, and education.
