Primary Music Teacher
About this position
The International School of Pha Ngan, located on Koh Phangan in Surat Thani, Thailand, is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic full-time Primary Music Teacher to join its academic team.
This role offers the chance to inspire young learners through a dynamic music education program. The successful candidate will teach music following the Cambridge Primary Music curriculum for Stages 1–6, focusing on enhancing students' musical skills while nurturing creativity, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation of music through performance, composition, and critical listening.
The music teacher will deliver lessons covering three main areas:
- Music performance and composition
- Understanding music through listening and context
- Evaluating musical works
Lessons should be interactive and enjoyable for primary-aged students. Responsibilities include leading whole-class instrumental lessons using instruments such as the ukulele, recorder, or percussion. The teacher will also manage the school's musical instruments and music-related resources.
Collaboration with Primary Homeroom teachers is essential to create cross-curricular learning experiences, connecting music with subjects such as History, Science, and Global Perspectives. The teacher will organize and direct musical performances throughout the school year, including assemblies, the annual Winter Show, and the End-of-Year Graduation Ceremony.
Occasionally, the teacher may lead Music and Movement sessions for children aged three to five, combining Montessori activities with music learning. The role also involves introducing students to basic music technology and digital recording tools like GarageBand or Chrome Music Lab.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field
- A recognized teaching qualification such as QTS, PGCE, or equivalent
- A minimum of two to three years of primary music teaching experience
- Familiarity with the Cambridge or UK National Curriculum is highly desirable
- Proficiency in at least one musical instrument, preferably piano or guitar, for classroom accompaniment
- Experience in directing choirs or small ensembles is an advantage
- Familiarity with teaching approaches such as Orff, Kodály, or Dalcroze is an advantage
- Experience supporting EAL learners through music is an advantage
