About the role
We are seeking an experienced Primary EAL Department Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated and passionate team at Regent's International School Bangkok, based in the vibrant district of Wang Thonglang, Bangkok. This is a full-time position that will see you play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of high-quality English as an Additional Language (EAL) education to our primary school students.
Responsibilities
- Support Learning: Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons by supporting EAL learners in accessing the curriculum.
- Provide targeted support for students developing English proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
- Help the teacher scaffold learning tasks to ensure students can participate fully in classroom activities.
- Language Development: Assist the teacher with students acquiring English through structured activities and guided practice.
- Reinforce key vocabulary and language structures across subjects, as appropriate.
- Assist with the delivery of EAL interventions and small group sessions.
- Promote Inclusive Learning: Provide differentiated support for students at varying levels of English proficiency.
- Help ensure all learners can access learning and feel confident participating in lessons.
- Support new arrivals in settling into the school environment and routines.
- Monitor Progress: Observe and document student progress in English language acquisition and engagement.
- Share observations with teachers and contribute to planning next steps or support strategies.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of EAL learners.
- Classroom Management: Assist in maintaining a respectful and focused learning environment.
- Support behaviour management in line with school expectations.
- Encourage independence and confidence in learners.
- Health and Safety: Ensure students are supervised appropriately during lessons and school activities.
- Follow all school health and safety procedures.
- Parent Communication: Support communication between school and families, particularly where language may be a barrier.
- Help share information about student progress and school life where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Relevant experience in a teaching assistant or similar role, preferably within a primary school setting.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of effective EAL teaching methodologies and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- A passion for supporting the academic and personal development of young learners.
- Flexibility, creativity, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Relevant qualifications in education, EAL, or a related field would be highly desirable.
