About this position

We are looking for an adaptable, experienced and committed TEFL Intervention/Cover teacher who has high expectations of children’s learning and a passion for working with young people. The successful candidate must be a native English speaker and able to demonstrate clear spoken English, excellent classroom practice, the ability to motivate students, and a willingness to work in partnership with the staff team. Position starts in January 2025. Amnuay Silpa School, Bangkok. Starting May 2026.

Qualifications
  • Native English speaker
  • Be currently in Bangkok, Thailand (desirable)
  • Enthusiastic, adaptable, and highly committed
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Relevant TEFL qualification (Cambridge CELTA/DELTA, Trinity CertTESOL or equivalent)
  • Some knowledge of the England & Wales curriculum (desirable)
  • Minimum of one years teaching/support experience (desirable)
  • Previous experience working in Thailand (desirable, but not essential)

Responsibilities

This job description may be amended at any time following discussion between the Headteacher and a member of staff and will be reviewed annually.

Teaching and class management
  • Establish and maintain a safe, purposeful working atmosphere which supports learning and in which pupils feel secure and confident.
  • Set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour, maintaining a good standard of discipline through well-focused teaching and positive, productive relationships.
  • Provide clear structures for lessons, maintaining pace, motivation and challenge.
  • Create a safe and stimulating environment where displays support learning and celebrate pupils’ progress and achievements.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to develop pupils’ thinking through the Thinking School Programme; structure information clearly, outline learning intentions and summarise key points; instruct, demonstrate and give accurate, well-paced explanations using appropriate vocabulary; use a range of effective questioning, listen carefully to pupils and address errors and misconceptions.
  • Select, modify or create appropriate learning resources and develop study skills through use of the library, ICT and other resources.
  • Ensure pupils acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subjects taught.
  • Critically evaluate teaching to improve effectiveness.
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of all children in the school.
Planning
  • Identify clear teaching and learning objectives and specify how these will be taught and assessed.
  • Communicate and co-operate with class teachers regarding pupil progress.
  • Set tasks, including homework, which challenge pupils and ensure a high level of interest.
  • Set appropriate and demanding expectations for pupils’ learning, motivation and presentation of work.
  • Set clear targets building on prior attainment.
  • Identify and differentiate the needs of individuals and groups within the class, taking note of Individual Education Action Plans.
  • Make effective use of assessment information when planning lessons and plan opportunities to contribute to pupils’ thinking and pastoral care.
Monitoring, assessing, recording and reporting
  • Assess how well learning intentions have been achieved and use assessments to improve teaching.
  • Mark and monitor pupils’ work and set targets for progress in line with school policy.
  • Assess and record pupils’ progress systematically, keeping records to check understanding and completion, monitor strengths and weaknesses, inform planning and recognise the level at which pupils are working.
  • Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to children, including reporting to parents.
Other professional requirements
  • Support the aims and objectives of the school and uphold all school policies.
  • Establish effective working relationships and set a good example through presentation and personal and professional conduct.
  • Endeavour to give every child the opportunity to reach their potential and meet high expectations.
  • Contribute to the life of the school through participation in meetings and extra-curricular activities.
  • Participate in performance management arrangements and take responsibility for professional development in relation to school policies and practices.
  • Communicate and cooperate with parents and participate in administrative and organisational tasks related to the role.
  • Effectively meet all deadlines and carry out other duties as reasonably required by the Headteacher.
  • Participate in the development and promotion of whole-school EAL strategies.
