Secondary EAL Teacher - China

Konnekts EdRecruit is seeking a qualified and passionate EAL Teacher to join a well-established international school in China. The successful candidate will support secondary students whose first language is not English, helping them develop the language skills necessary to succeed academically across the curriculum. The teacher will work closely with subject teachers to ensure students receive appropriate language support and can access the mainstream curriculum effectively.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality EAL instruction to secondary students (Years 7–12 or equivalent).
• Assess students’ English proficiency and develop appropriate learning plans.
• Provide targeted language support to students in both small-group and whole-class settings.
• Collaborate with subject teachers to adapt learning materials and support language development across subjects.
• Monitor and track students’ progress and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and school leadership.
• Support students in developing academic writing, reading comprehension, and communication skills.
• Participate in school meetings, professional development, and school activities.
• Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Linguistics, or a related field.
• Recognized teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
• TESOL / TEFL / CELTA certification is an advantage.
• Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in an international school setting.
• Experience teaching EAL/ESL students at the secondary level.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an international environment.

Preferred

• Experience with IGCSE, IB, or other international curricula.
• Experience supporting students with varying levels of English proficiency.
