About this position

Second Tree is seeking teachers for a minimum commitment of 10 weeks to provide English lessons to refugees and asylum seekers in the Epirus region of Northern Greece. The preferred candidate will have experience teaching English as a foreign/second language and a strong interest in the environment we operate in. Prior experience delivering educational activities in this setting is a strong plus.

Responsibilities
  • Planning and delivering lessons for classes ranging from A0 (illiteracy) to B2, taking into account individual differences within each class
  • Preparing class materials and assessments
  • Empowering students with interpersonal and life skills and incorporating these into lesson planning
  • Completing administrative tasks such as tracking attendance and communicating class updates to students
  • Ensuring student engagement and progress
  • Working closely with the Education Manager to ensure the programme is delivered to Second Tree's expected standards
  • Participating in community engagement activities (picnics, community lunches, sporting events, etc.)
Qualifications

You must have a degree in teaching and/or certification in English language teaching (TEFL/TESOL/CELTA or equivalent).

Preferred experience
  • Experience working in the refugee context
  • Experience teaching low-level literacy students

In certain periods of the year demand is extremely high and the shared houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We may still be able to host you if space is available. Allowing those who cannot afford rent to access volunteering opportunities is a priority when houses are full.
