About this position

Readers Brain Academy is a remote online education company that uses science-based methods for teaching writing and reading. We are seeking an experienced reading specialist to work with Chinese elementary school ELLs who have experience using the RAZ Kids platform.

Requirements

  • Five years' experience as a reading specialist using RAZ Kids.
  • At least one year's experience teaching online with Zoom.
  • Ability to work with students after school on weekdays or weekends Beijing Time and/or in the evenings on North American Pacific Time.
  • Five years' experience teaching English Language Arts at the elementary school level.
  • Experience teaching ELLs is a plus.
  • Ability to create class materials or syllabi without relying on AI tools.

Preferred: B.A. or M.A. in linguistics or academic research/experience working with dyslexic students, a focus that has useful parallels with the science behind our teaching methods.

Please apply using the form below. Include a resume, a cover letter, and a brief lesson plan explaining how you would use RAZ Kids to teach phonemic awareness to a seven-year-old Mandarin speaker at a public school in China who struggles with vowel sounds. This student has decent spoken fluency in English and very good comprehension of spoken English.

In your application, indicate (1) which level of RAZ Kids you feel would be suitable for a trial lesson and (2) what you would do if you discover the student fabricates interpretations of the text by guessing at content instead of reading word for word.

Our classes currently focus on one-on-one coaching with RAZ Kids, but we are also looking for an ELA teacher with at least five years' experience in elementary and lower middle-school grades.

Compensation: Hourly rates are $40 for one-on-one coaching and $40 per hour per student for small classes (limited to 6 or fewer students).

We will consider only applicants who provide a resume, cover letter, and a lesson plan.

We will disqualify applicants who use AI to generate lesson plans, since reliance on AI will prevent effective, real-time responses during our dynamic classes.
