Online English Language Coach for Adults

International Language Coaching Inc. is seeking highly qualified, professional, native or native-fluent English language coaches to join an elite Tokyo-based language school for online coaching of adult Japanese students.

Rate

• Japanese yen: ¥1,000 per 25-minute private lesson
• ¥2,000 per 50-minute group lesson

Availability

• Monday to Saturday, 5:00 AM to 00:30 AM, Japan Standard Time
• Minimum coach availability requirement: 15 hours per week
• High demand for Monday to Friday mornings and all day Saturday
• Priority will be given to candidates who can commit to Monday to Friday mornings and at least half of Saturday
• We also offer classes during typical business hours; however, these are not the core working hours

About the Role

• Online coaching for adults only; no children
• Fixed schedule and fixed lessons/students
• Students are assigned to the coach for the complete 1-year program
• Most lessons are private, 25-minute lessons
• Coaches are paid even if the student does not attend a lesson
• Adult students: professionals and executives
• Comprehensive training program
• Mentors actively support coach development throughout the relationship
• An English-speaking Japanese consultant supports the coach and student

We use the term coach instead of teacher, as our coaches do not drill grammar but use a holistic, goal-oriented approach to support our students in reaching their English communication goals.

• Company-provided free Zoom Pro account
• Microsoft 365 account
• Platinum School scheduling system
• Company-provided free Pearson and other digital materials

Ideal Candidate

• Native English speakers from Canada, the UK, New Zealand, India, South Africa, Australia, America, etc.
• Native-fluent English speakers
• 6 months of online coaching experience preferred, but applicants with transferable skills are welcome
• Home office/workspace with stable internet
• Excellent communication and people skills
• Accountable, responsible, and professional
• Computer and noise-cancelling headset required; phones and tablets are not acceptable

• Self-introduction video is preferred
• Inform us which Japan Standard Time shifts you are interested in by starting the application with 'Early bird' for morning shifts or 'Night owl' for evening shifts
• Applications that do not include the required information cannot be processed
• We do not interview applicants who are travelling or working as digital nomads/tourists unless documentation that explicitly allows work is provided
• During the interview, an internet speed test will be conducted, so the applicant must attend the interview in the location where the lessons will be conducted
• We do not conduct interviews if the applicant is traveling
