About Us

Leader Language Schools in Changhua, Taiwan, seek one English instructor to begin in December.

Founded in 1998, Leader Language Schools are English language institutes in Changhua. We teach the four skills of listening, reading, speaking, and writing to youths up to eighteen years old. We have had considerable success in preparing students for the General English Proficiency Test (GEPT), which is recognized by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan.

Where We Are

Leader has three locations in Changhua, a mid-sized city bordered by Bagua Mountain, where residents can enjoy hiking, biking, tennis, golf, swimming, and bird-watching. One of the largest free-standing statues of Buddha in Southeast Asia is on Bagua Mountain.

Changhua is a 20-minute train ride north to Taichung, which has a population of over three million people and offers many restaurants, department stores, and parks. With the High Speed Rail (HSR), northern and southern cities of Taiwan are easily accessible within one hour, and the beaches of Kenting are about three hours away.

Who We Seek

• Native English speakers with a four-year degree in any field.
• Experience in teaching, coaching, tutoring, or mentoring is preferred.
• Energetic, sociable, and friendly to students, staff, parents, and fellow teachers.
• Flexible with periodic schedule changes and willing to commit to at least one year in Taiwan.
• Interest in learning Mandarin Chinese and/or Taiwanese is desirable.
• Preference for non-smokers (current staff and faculty are non-smokers).

Responsibilities

• Teach a mix of group classes and tutorials for different ages and levels.
• Coordinate lessons with Taiwanese co-teachers (classes have at least one native speaker teacher and one Taiwanese teacher; they do not teach simultaneously but coordinate).
• Write comments on report cards and grade essays; most homework is graded by Taiwanese staff.

What Leader Offers / Benefits

• Five-day-a-week schedule (options include Mon–Fri; Tue–Sat; or a six-day option). Teachers have mornings free; arrive one hour before first class and finish after last class.
• Starting base hourly pay for group classes: NT$730–NT$750 (based on experience); NT$650 for tutorials, with a guaranteed minimum of 18 teaching hours per week. Opportunities for extra hours/pay and yearly increases.
• Paid five-day practice teaching during training period: NT$550 per class hour when time is spent in front of any class.
• End-of-year bonus intended to cover initial airfare and visa costs.
• Free airport pick-up.
• Employer pays the major portion (based on the official government-provided salary chart) of national health insurance; employee portion is under US$30 per month deducted from wages.
• Advances on pay to assist with start-up costs.
• Assistance in processing and sponsorship of work visa and Alien Residence Card (ARC).
• Reduced rent: housing in the LEADER Teachers' House (approx. US$250/month). If residing in the Teachers' House, two weeks' rent is free. All utilities except electric are free.
• Guidance in filing and reclaiming government taxes (income tax 5–6% if staying over 183 days in a tax year; 18% if under 183 days, with eligibility for a rebate of the difference).

Qualifications

• At least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in any field (degrees related to TESOL/TEFL, English, Linguistics, or Education preferred but not required).
• Experience working with children (teaching, mentoring, tutoring, or coaching).

Additional Information

Our branches are centrally located on the western plains of the island. With the HSR, travel around Taiwan is convenient. We currently only have one position open at a time.
