Lead a Mission-Driven STEM Boarding School

Burao Academy is seeking a dynamic, experienced, and visionary High School Principal (Grades 9–12) to provide academic and operational leadership for the school’s high school division. This is an opportunity to help shape one of the most ambitious educational institutions in Somaliland and contribute to building the next generation of Somali scientists, engineers, innovators, and leaders.

Position Summary

The High School Principal will oversee the academic, operational, and student life functions of Grades 9–12. The Principal will work closely with the Board, school administration, teachers, students, and parents to ensure high academic standards, strong discipline, institutional growth, and a positive boarding school environment. Burao Academy is a residential boarding school, and the selected candidate must be willing to live on or near campus and actively participate in the life of the institution.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise all high school academic programs (Grades 9–12)
• Ensure strong academic performance and instructional quality
• Support curriculum development and classroom effectiveness
• Monitor student achievement, attendance, and academic progress
• Promote STEM-focused education and critical thinking
• Supervise teachers and support staff
• Coordinate school schedules, examinations, and academic planning
• Ensure implementation of school policies and procedures
• Support teacher recruitment, evaluation, and professional development
• Foster a safe, respectful, and disciplined learning environment
• Promote student leadership, responsibility, and ethical conduct
• Work collaboratively with the Board and leadership team
• Support strategic planning and school improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, School Leadership, Administration, or a related field
• Minimum of 3–5 years of educational leadership or school administration experience
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
• Experience supervising teachers and managing school operations
• Commitment to academic excellence and student development
• Ability to work in a multicultural and mission-driven environment
• Willingness to live in campus and support boarding school operations

Preferred:

• Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership
• Experience with STEM-focused schools or college preparatory programs
• Experience in boarding school environments
• International or African educational experience

Compensation

Compensation package will be based on qualifications, experience, and institutional budget. Housing and meals may be provided as part of the boarding school arrangement.
