About this position

British Mandarin International School in Bangkok is seeking a qualified and motivated ESL Teacher to also serve as Head of the ESL Department for the 20262027 academic year.

This is a full-time position with an opportunity to lead and improve the school's English as a Second Language program for secondary students following the British curriculum.

The successful candidate will teach ESL to students aged 1118, with class sizes ranging from 15 to 20 students. Instruction will follow the Cambridge curriculum, including both IGCSE and A Level pathways.

The role combines classroom teaching with leadership responsibilities and requires planning and delivering engaging, differentiated ESL lessons that meet a range of English proficiency levels. The curriculum is designed to improve students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in line with Cambridge standards.

A major responsibility is preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language exams and supporting students moving on to A Level English Language studies. The teacher will also help students prepare for internationally recognized English proficiency tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, and Cambridge assessments.

The position includes assessing students' language abilities, monitoring academic progress, and implementing targeted strategies to meet individual learning needs. Student progress will be tracked through classroom observations, tests, and coursework.

As Head of the ESL Department, the candidate will manage curriculum planning, assessment procedures, and overall program quality. Responsibilities include mentoring ESL teachers, ensuring consistency across the department, and maintaining high teaching and learning standards. The role also involves collaborating with subject teachers to integrate language support across academic areas and analyzing student achievement data to support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field
  • Master's degree is advantageous
  • Recognized teaching qualification such as PGCE, QTS, CELTA, DELTA, or equivalent certification
  • Minimum of three years of ESL/EFL teaching experience
  • Leadership or coordination experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with Cambridge programs
  • Strong record of preparing students for English proficiency exams
