About this position
The Central European Teaching Program (CETP) is seeking native English-speaking teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. CETP places teachers in public, parochial, and private schools throughout Hungary, from small villages to larger cities, including Budapest.

Positions- Primary Schools (grades 1-8)
- High Schools (grades 9-13)
- Select schools are hiring certified teachers in English, History, Math, and Science for grades 1-12
- Native speaker of English
- Citizen of the United States, the UK, Ireland, or Canada (no exceptions)
- Bachelor's Degree in any major
- Completed TEFL certificate
- Processing of all paperwork to obtain the necessary work and residence permits
- School placement in a public, parochial, or private school
- Monthly salary of approximately $1500, paid in Hungarian forint
- Furnished housing provided by the school
- Income tax exemption in Hungary
- Health insurance through the national Hungarian health system
- Training and orientation covering cultural differences, basic language skills, and teaching methodology
- In-country support from CETP staff and a community of CETP teachers
- Possibility to renew for up to five years
- 1. Applicant Screening: Submit your CV and cover letter, as well as scanned copies of your diploma(s) and TEFL certificate using the form below.
- 2. Interview with CETP Director: Eligible candidates will be offered a time to schedule an interview when positions are available.
- 3. References, background check, doctor’s letter: Once these documents have been received and approved, a $50 non-refundable application fee is due before interviewing with schools.
- 4. Submission to School: Candidates who meet CETP standards are given a choice of schools; their CV, cover letter, diplomas, TEFL certificates, and references are submitted to the selected school.
- 5. School interview: If a school is interested, they may schedule an interview.
- 6. Complete Candidate Portfolio: Once accepted, the candidate gathers all necessary documents.
- 7. Program Fee Payment: After a school and teacher mutually agree, the program fee payment schedule is initiated. The total fee for the first year of teaching is $2500.
