About Somali National University (SNU)

Established in 1954 and nationally accredited in 1969, Somali National University (SNU) is the largest university in Somalia and one of the oldest in East Africa. It offers a wide range of degree programs, including agriculture, chemistry, medicine, engineering, and geology. SNU is a thriving university with 15 faculties, over 16,000 students, and five campuses across Somalia.

The English Language Institute (ELI), launched in 2024, provides high-standard English training to help SNU students improve their communication skills, which are crucial for academic and career success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, TESOL, or a related field.
• Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in TESOL (Master’s preferred).

Skills and Experience

• Previous in-person classroom teaching experience and a high degree of digital literacy.
• The ability and desire to work with language learners, showing empathy and awareness of challenges, knowledge of curricular objectives, and the ability to develop curriculum responsive to the needs of Somali students.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, a kind regard for others, and a good sense of humor.

Working Conditions

• Full-time: 40 hours per week (24 instructional hours and 16 office hours for meetings, professional development, student support, marking, and prep time).
