Role Description

This full-time, on-site Elementary School PE Teacher role is based at the British Columbia International School of Bangkok campus in Bangkok. The teacher will plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons that align with both the British Columbia curriculum and the IB PYP framework, using an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary approach to promote physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Preparing lesson plans grounded in PYP units of inquiry and BC learning standards
  • Organizing age-appropriate activities and games
  • Assessing student progress against BC and IB criteria
  • Maintaining a safe learning environment
  • Managing equipment and facilities
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers on transdisciplinary connections
  • Contributing to PYP unit planning as the PE specialist
  • Participating in school events and extracurricular activities
  • Communicating regularly with families about student progress and behavior

The teacher is expected to embody the IB learner profile attributes, contribute to a positive school culture, and support the social and emotional well-being of all students.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills in teaching and elementary education, with the ability to design and deliver age-appropriate physical education lessons
  • Experience in curriculum development and education, including aligning PE activities with the British Columbia curriculum and learning outcomes, ideally with familiarity in IB PYP inquiry-based approaches and transdisciplinary planning
  • Strong communication skills for working with students, families, and colleagues in a multicultural school community
  • A relevant bachelor's degree in Education, Physical Education, or a related field, and a valid teaching credential or license (BC certification or equivalent preferred); IB PYP training or experience is an asset
  • Experience teaching PE at the elementary level, ideally in an international, IB, or bilingual school setting
  • Ability to create an inclusive, safe, and supportive environment for students of diverse backgrounds and abilities, reflecting IB's commitment to international-mindedness
  • Strong classroom and behavior management skills, with a focus on positive reinforcement and student engagement
  • Willingness to participate in professional development (including IB workshops), school events, and extracurricular sports or activities
