Role Overview

The Early Years & Primary Principal plays a key leadership role in the establishment and launch of Rise International School. Working closely with the Founder/Head of School, the Principal is responsible for implementing the school’s academic framework, developing student experience systems, leading teacher preparation, and ensuring safeguarding and learning quality during the pre-opening phase and beyond. From September 2026 until the school’s opening in August 2027, the role focuses on system building, curriculum development, staff management, and academic policies and operations. This position suits an experienced teacher or academic leader who is responsible and committed to translating vision into practice within a start-up school environment.

Responsibilities

Academic & Curriculum Leadership

  • Lead academic implementation and quality, working with the Head of School.
  • Implement the school’s academic framework across Early Years and Primary.
  • Develop curriculum through curriculum standards (e.g., Cambridge curriculum, Singapore curriculum for Math/Science, EY frameworks).
  • Oversee curriculum mapping, unit themes, and learning progressions.
  • Develop teacher-ready curriculum materials, including unit plans, lesson plan samples, pacing guidance, assessment tools, and rubrics.
  • Ensure alignment between curriculum design, assessment practices, and daily classroom routines.
  • Monitor academic quality and consistency across programmes.
  • Lead day-to-day academic operations related to teaching, learning, and student experience.

Teacher Leadership & Professional Practice

  • Lead and support teachers in delivering high-quality classroom practice aligned with the school’s pedagogy.
  • Participate in teacher recruitment and interviews.
  • Support onboarding of new teachers into the school’s pedagogy, expectations, and culture.
  • Design and lead teacher training and professional development.
  • Establish clear expectations for teaching and learning, including lesson planning, classroom practice, and assessment documentation.
  • Implement coaching, observation, and feedback cycles to support teaching quality.
  • Identify training needs and provide targeted instructional support.
  • Handle academic and classroom-related matters professionally, calmly, and constructively.
  • Support day-to-day academic problem-solving related to teaching and learning.
  • Ensure consistency in classroom expectations, routines, and professional conduct.
  • Foster a reflective, growth-oriented professional culture.

Student Experience & School Culture

  • Translate the school’s philosophy into clear daily routines that promote psychological safety, confidence, curiosity, and thinking.
  • Lead the implementation of student wellbeing systems, including regular check-ins and monitoring.
  • Support smooth student transitions and induction into the school community.
  • Lead daily school routines that promote student wellbeing, safety, and a positive learning culture.
  • Oversee accurate maintenance of student welfare and wellbeing records, in collaboration with relevant staff.

Admissions, Operations & Policy

  • Review admissions applications and assess student readiness for each year level, in line with the school’s admissions criteria.
  • Meet and engage with prospective parents to explain the school’s academic approach, expectations, and student support systems.
  • Support parent engagement through academic briefings, orientations, and workshops.
  • Develop and maintain academic and student-facing operational documents, including classroom routines guides and teacher handbooks.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of academic, student-related, and staffing policies.
  • Lead the design and delivery of playgroup and summer camp programmes.
  • Support planning and oversight of academic-related resources within the agreed annual budget.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

  • Develop and implement safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Oversee safeguarding training and ensure staff understand their responsibilities and reporting obligations.
  • Ensure safeguarding policies, procedures, and systems are fully implemented and consistently followed by all staff.
  • Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and incidents, following established protocols.
  • Foster a school culture where child safety, wellbeing, and professional boundaries are clearly understood and upheld.

Who we are looking for

Required

  • At least 3 years of experience as an Early Years homeroom teacher.
  • Strong understanding of curriculum design and teaching quality.
  • Experience leading and developing teachers.
  • Clear communication and collaborative leadership style.

Preferred

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Primary school teacher.
  • Experience in school leadership or senior academic roles.
  • Experience with UK and/or Singapore curriculum frameworks.
  • Experience in international or bilingual school contexts.
