Purpose of the role
The University and Career Guidance Counselor at SBS Rangsit will support students through the transition from secondary education to higher education and the professional world. The role includes developing internship opportunities, facilitating university applications, promoting and expanding MOUs, building university partnerships, and providing personalised student support.
Responsibilities
- Internship Development
- Collaborate with local businesses and organisations to develop internship opportunities across various professions.
- Work closely with students to understand interests, career goals, and learning objectives, and match them with appropriate placements.
- Provide ongoing support and mentorship during internships, including check-ins, site visits, and feedback sessions.
- Create promotional materials and campaigns to raise awareness of the internship programme among students, parents, and the community.
- Collaborate with secondary leadership to integrate internship experiences into the academic curriculum.
- University Applications
- Assist students with applications to local and international universities, utilising tools such as Unifrog.
- Offer personalised guidance on selecting suitable universities and programmes.
- Support application documentation, including transcripts, recommendation letters, essays, and portfolios.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of admission requirements, deadlines, and trends.
- Support preparation for standardised tests such as the SAT, IELTS, and exams for medical students such as UCAT.
- Keep accurate records of students' academic progress, extracurriculars, achievements, and any awards from the Department of Education (DOE).
- MOU Promotion & Expansion
- Educate students and parents about existing MOUs with partner universities.
- Promote and expand awareness of MOUs so students can make informed higher-education choices.
- Foster relationships with partner universities and identify potential new partnerships.
- Negotiate and establish new MOUs to expand opportunities for student enrollment and collaboration.
- Student Support
- Provide personalised guidance for portfolios, personal statements, and interview preparation.
- Meet with early secondary students to assess aspirations and facilitate career guidance and experiential learning.
- Organise college application workshops, mock interviews, and informational sessions tailored to faculties.
- Stay informed about career pathways and job market trends to advise students on alternatives to university.
- Coordinate campus visits, interviews, and information sessions with university representatives.
- Keep accurate student records including academic progress and DOE awards, and schedule one-on-one meetings with students and parents about university pathways.

- Quality and effectiveness of university and post-secondary guidance.
- Successful placement of students into suitable universities, programmes, internships, or alternative pathways.
- Development and sustainability of internship programmes and university partnerships.
- Accuracy and timeliness of application processes, documentation, and student records.
- Student preparedness, confidence, and satisfaction regarding post-secondary planning.
- Contribution to whole-school initiatives related to career readiness and future pathways.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
- Student placement outcomes: percentage of students receiving offers aligned with their profile and aspirations.
- Application quality and timeliness: on-time submission rate with minimal errors.
- Internship programme impact: number, quality, and diversity of internship placements with positive feedback.
- Partnership growth and engagement: expansion and effective use of MOUs and external partnerships.
- Student and parent satisfaction: positive feedback regarding guidance and communication.
- Future readiness and engagement: evidence of improved preparedness through workshops, interviews, portfolios, and milestones.
Qualifications
- Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counselling, Psychology, Career Guidance, or related field.
- Recognised qualification or professional training in university counselling, career guidance, or student support.
- Demonstrated experience supporting students through local and international university applications.
- Strong knowledge of global higher education systems, admission requirements, and timelines.
- Experience guiding students with documentation including personal statements, portfolios, and recommendation letters.
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and external partners.
- High organisational skill with the ability to manage multiple students, deadlines, and systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

- Preferred
- Master’s degree in Counselling, Education, Psychology, or related field.
- Experience in international schools, particularly IB DP, Cambridge, or similar pathways.
- Experience using platforms such as Unifrog and an established network of university contacts.
- Experience supporting applications for competitive programmes and standardised testing pathways (SAT, IELTS, UCAT, etc.).
- Familiarity with internships, experiential learning programmes, or work-based learning models.

- Full-time position: new teachers' contracts are 2 years; subsequent contracts are 1 year.
