Thank you for your interest in Shunan English School (SES). SES is a privately-owned company providing English and other foreign language instruction to people in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.

SES has been providing language instruction to Japanese students since 1972. Currently, SES maintains offices in four cities in Yamaguchi, with the main office located in Shunan. In addition to classes taught at these offices, SES offers courses in classrooms in high schools, colleges, corporate offices, community centers and private homes throughout the area. SES also provides translation services to clients.

The staff at SES is a team of native English speakers and English-speaking Japanese teachers. SES seeks to hire dynamic and enthusiastic native English speakers with a college degree who are interested in the opportunity to work in Japan. Also, we teach many children, so we are looking for people who enjoy working with kids. All of our teachers have a great chance to learn about Japan and its people, language and culture.

Classes at SES are composed of many different kinds of students. For example, classes may be students from elementary, junior or senior high school, a group of adults, a group of company workers, college students, or an individual.

Typically, native English teachers sign a contract to work for one year at SES, and then extend it if they wish to stay longer. SES provides a car for each teacher to commute to classes at various locations. For a small insurance fee, this car may also be used for private travel; however you may be asked to share the car with another teacher. Teachers may also find it convenient to rent an apartment through SES, avoiding the additional costs and paperwork of renting in Japan. In addition, SES management will assist with monthly bills and other services requiring Japanese language ability.

Shunan is a commercial city of approximately 150,000 people located on the southern coast of Yamaguchi Prefecture, along the "Inland Sea." Yamaguchi Prefecture is located in western Japan and contains many historic sites and beautiful natural locations including islands, beaches, mountains, parks, and caverns. Shunan enjoys a mild climate year round. The nearby cities of Hiroshima (30 min.) and Fukuoka (65 min.) may be reached by high-speed train.

A Bachelor's degree from a four-year university is required. A TESOL or similar teaching degree is preferred. Experience teaching English as a second language is also preferred. The monthly salary is 253,000 yen/month. Fluency in and ability to teach French or especially Spanish will earn an additional 5,000 yen/month (258,000 yen/month in total). A company car is provided and is available for private use. National health insurance is provided, or, if employees wish, they can purchase health insurance from private companies. The key money and deposit for an apartment are paid for.
