Volunteer Teachers sought for disadvantaged children in the foothills of the Himalayas, Pakistan - Pakistan
The Kaghan Memorial Trust (KMT) is a non-profit charitable organisation that is currently establishing the first of a number of schools providing free education for underprivileged children in Pakistan.
KMT is currently recruiting experienced teachers to work on a volunteer basis at its Kaghan Memorial School (KMS) in the Kaghan Valley, Northern Pakistan. We are looking for qualified females teachers to fill these positions in August 2011 with a commitment to work with us until August 2012. The main responsibilities of these teachers will include:
Developing daily lesson plans for the lessons assigned to them;
Delivering lessons for their assigned classes and subjects;
Working with, and supervising, the KMS local teaching team to ensure that lessons are delivered and assessed according to the vision of the school and in line with modern teaching practices;
Providing training and support for the local teachers working at KMS;
Developing and improving the KMS curriculum;
Organising events and activities at KMS for the students and staff;
Performing administrative duties related to classroom management such as inventorying of supplies and maintenance of class lists.
Applicants will need to have a college degree and experience teaching children and/or teaching English as a second language. Experience overseas will be an asset. Fluency in Urdu is not a necessity as KMS international teachers are supported in their classrooms by local teachers and teaching assistants who act as interpreters when required. It is essential that the candidate has a strong sense of commitment to the Trusts objectives and is willing to volunteer to work for KMT for at least one full year. The applicant should also be able to readily adapt to different cultures.
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals wishing to bring a real and sustainable difference to a severely deprived community. It will also allow the volunteer to experience a rich and frequently misunderstood part of the world.
The Trust provides its volunteers with accommodation, meals, one return air ticket per year for travel between their home country and Islamabad, visa expenses, local health cover, local transport facilities and a monthly stipend of Pak. Rs. 10,000 (approx US $117) to cover incidental expenses.
Interested candidates may apply by writing to Mr. Khurram Khan, Managing Trustee KMT at firstname.lastname@example.org All applications should be accompanied by a covering letter, a detailed resume, a photo and a copy of your passport or NIC (in the case of Pakistani applicants). Only short-listed candidates will be contacted.
