Job Type: Part Time

About the Job

Job Type: Part-time, Temporary

Job Location: LMU Campus Los Angeles, CA

Schedule: 8:45 AM – 12:45PM, Mon – Fri

(Optional 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM Cultural Workshops, Tuesday & Thursday)

Please note this position requires in-person teaching at our campus in Los Angeles, CA and not remote teaching.

Responsibilities:

The teacher’s primary objective is to:

  • Use the CISL teaching and supplemental materials to provide a communication-based, small-group English program to international adolescent students (14-17) participating in the Junior Program.
  • Make use of the methodology covered in training in order to maintain a level of uniformity within the program.
  • Prepare their daily lessons and to make sure that any materials or lessons they plan to use that are not included in the program materials are approved by the Head Teacher prior to using them in class.
  • Provide the Head Teacher with a copy of any material they intend to use in class for evaluation and approval at least 2 days before they plan to use it in class.

Hours:

The daily class schedule is from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM, with a break from 10:40 to 11:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Teachers are paid 20 hours per week (4 hours per day) for teaching 15.83 hours per week, which allows for prep time and weekly staff meetings.  Teachers are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes before class, in the event that the Program Coordinator or the Head Teacher has any important matters to go over with the teachers at the beginning of the day and to ensure that classes are started on time every day.

Staff meetings may be conducted at the end of the day, so teachers should plan to be occupied from 8:45 AM until 12:45 PM daily.

Cultural Workshops:

In addition to our regularly scheduled classes teachers have an opportunity to work additional hours by running our Cultural Workshops, which are offered on Tuesday and Thursdays from 1:30-3:00 PM.  Workshops emphasize mainly speaking and interaction with peers in a more casual setting, with “cultural content” used as the springboard for conversation. Topics are scheduled around afternoon activities and may range from iconic American culture such as attending a baseball game, to the more traditional such as visiting an art gallery.
