About the School

CESRT (Chios Eastern Shore Response Team) is a group of international volunteers from many different countries working to support the refugee community on the Greek island of Chios. In addition to its other contributions, CESRT provides a centre for the teaching of English (and other languages) to adult refugees. We are now looking for a coordinator for the project who is interested in contributing a minimum of three months full time from the month of August onwards. Our Language Centre is located close to the Vial camp and we offer two sessions a day of English lessons from Monday to Thursday, with classes in Greek and other languages on Friday. About the Job

As the language center coordinator, your responsibilities and tasks will be:

1. Set the tone of the LC as a safe, clean, welcoming, respectful, and supportive learning atmosphere for both teachers and students — demonstrating to all teachers and students the expected friendly greeting of each other on arrival;
2. Support the teachers, ensuring that they have access to materials, are clear about what is expected of them, & feel that they can seek help/advice when needed;
3. Develop and implement systems / schedule / planning needed to accommodate as many students as possible, keeping the ethos of the LC intact.
4. Take responsibility for all administration / finance and recruitment of the project and get involved in the CESRT overall coordination meetings.
5. Participate in other CESRT activities and attend to the coordination meetings.

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential Requirements:

1. Fluent English language
2. Strong interpersonal communication skills
3. Demonstrable experience in project coordination
4. Holding a European driving license

Desirable Experience

1. Demonstrable experience in teaching
2. Evidence of previous ESL/EFL teaching experience 
3. Ability to teach other European languages
4. Some familiarity with Arabic, Farsi, Urdu or French
